SVG vs JPG

.svg

SVG

A vector format that describes shapes with code instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. Converting it to a raster format fixes it at a chosen resolution.

.jpg .jpeg .jfif

JPG

The standard format for photos. It shrinks files by discarding detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which makes it compact but slightly lossy every time it is saved.

03FAQ

SVG to JPG Questions

Are my SVG files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly, so your SVG files never leave your device. Nothing is stored, and the page keeps working even on a slow connection.

Will converting SVG to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so a little detail is traded for a smaller file. At the default quality of 85 the difference is very hard to see. Move the quality slider up if you need the result to be closer to the original.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG can’t store transparency, so transparent parts of your SVG are filled with a background colour. White is the default; you can switch to black or pick any colour before converting.

What resolution will the JPG be?

We use the width and height set in the SVG. If it only has a viewBox, the longest side is drawn at 1,024 pixels. Use Resize to choose an exact size; the vector is rendered at that size, so it stays crisp.

Will the JPG file be bigger or smaller?

SVG is code, not pixels, so the JPG is usually larger. Its size depends mainly on the resolution you choose.

Is the SVG to JPG converter free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. Convert up to 50 files per batch, as many times as you like.
